| About
the Host |
| Hello,
my name is Derek Adams and I am the host for the KYCAMPING.ORG
website. I am joined in this endeavor by my lovely wife Virginia.
We were married the summer of 2004 and have lived just north
of the foothill region of the Appalachian Mountains in Richmond,
KY ever since. Richmond is one of those towns that is exponentially
growing yet still maintains that home town feel. The rolling
hills of the bluegrass have kept us in the area now for the
past three years. |

| I
was born in eastern Kentucky and raised for 4 years near the
Virginia state line in a little community named Jerimiah, KY.
After which my family moved to the central part of the state
to Clark County. I lived there for 14 years until I went off
to college at the University of Kentucky in Lexington…just
25 short miles away. I brought my college career to an end just
this past summer at Eastern Kentucky University. I obtained
an Associate of Science at what was then UK’s Lexington
Community College, and both an undergraduate and graduate degree
from Eastern Kentucky University; a BS in Biology and a Master
of Public Health concentrating on Environmental Health Sciences.
Now I seek adventure through camping and traveling with my loyal
wife.
Virginia
was born in Rome, New York and lived there until she was two
years old. Her father was in the Air Force when they moved
from New York to central Illinois and lived there for eight
years. Virginia and her family moved to London, KY in September
of 1992. She lived in London for eleven years and then moved
to Richmond to attend Eastern Kentucky University. She graduated
in December of 2006 with her Associate of Arts in Paralegal
Studies.
Virginia
and I have two children...well, they’re canine children,
but we love them the same. Fisher, a miniature dachshund,
and Cooper, a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog mix, love to camp
just as much as we do. They love to camp so much that they
get into the tent and catch some zzz’s while we sit
around the campfire. Needless to say, they are two pampered
pooches!

| I’ve
been camping since I got my drivers license and ventured to
the Red River Gorge near Natural Bridge most every weekend during
my senior year of high school. Virginia has camped most of her
life, being that her family camped and boated any time they
had the chance. Together, we mostly enjoy “car camping”,
but very much like the occasional primitive adventure. Because
of time restraints, we’ve only been able to venture out
about 100 miles or so to the “local” campgrounds.
Our goal is to visit as many campgrounds and state parks as
we possible can.
Feel free
to contact us and share your camping adventures with us and
our readers. We hope that you enjoy the website as much as
we enjoy hosting KYCamping.org.
